Long COVID – a phenomenon to study further

Long COVID and ME have many similarities. In the spring of 2023, the results of a study on INMEST in connection with ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome were published in Oxford Open Immunology) The study was led by senior physician Per Julin.

The results from the study are interesting in many ways, not least because the symptoms of ME are similar to those seen in long COVID. If INMEST helps in ME, maybe it will also help long COVID patients?

Similarities between ME/CFS and long COVID

Both long COVID and ME/CFS are multisystem diseases, i.e. conditions that can affect different organ systems in the body, but the long COVID group is more varied.

However, some symptoms show similarities between ME and long COVID, such as fatigue, confusion and memory loss.

Although the INMEST method cannot remedy all types of symptoms that occur in long COVID, the results of the ME study suggest that the method can work for some long COVID patients as well. We also rely on the fact that treatment of a few long COVID patients has shown improvements in the form of normalization of the resting heart rate, improved oxygenation of the blood, easier breathing and reduced fatigue.

The foundation’s aim is therefore to get an extended study started, but the high cost for conducting such a study together with local factors at the intended study site has meant that it has n
